Our Story
Bay Forest is a fabulous community about two miles from downtown Bethany Beach. The developer of this great community came up with an idea to build a potting shed along with a large herb garden. Gardeners within Bay Forest could then create a serene place to grow herbs and flowers available to residents of the community. The Herb Garden Committee was created to provide oversight and guidance on the use of the garden. Five women from this Committee decided to take things even further. They wanted to get all the active gardeners within Bay Forest to participate in even more activities and to expand the gardening knowledge of the group as well. After researching other garden clubs in Delaware, these five women created the Salt Air Gardeners. The garden club was started in October of 2016 and quickly grew to 50 members.
The Salt Air Gardeners is an independent, self-supporting Club, and is a member of the Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs and the National Garden Club. Our members enjoy monthly meetings with guest speakers, programs, field trips, workshops, gardening activities, and community projects.
The members of the club consider themselves to be lifelong learners. We are a fun-loving group who enjoy the company of other gardeners. We believe in giving back to the greater community and protecting and conserving the environment which has given us so much to enjoy!
